The NAACP Honolulu Branch

 

African Cultural Club

The purpose and aims of the Honolulu-Hawaii Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People are to "improve political, educational, social, and economic status of minority groups, to eliminate racial prejudice, to keep the public aware of the adverse effects of racial discrimination."

 

The aim is to foster African culture, and interculturalracial harmony, culture exchange, cooperation, understanding, and goodwill with the academic and local community at large. Furthermore, the aim is to promote, and create economic and education opportunities. This will enhance students understanding of African heritage, and to be better prepared to enter the University of Hawaii educational system and the world.

Encourage and facilitate meetings, rallies, classes, films, and any other meaningful activities during, but not limited to, the week preceding the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

 

To unite college men of culture, patriotism and honor in a bond of Fraternity; To encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor; To promote the spiritual, social, intellectual and moral welfare of members; To assist the aims and purposes of colleges and universities; To inspire service in the public interest.

We promote justice and equal rights through laws.  We are a civil rights organization and network to assist African Americans in Hawaii.   Provide a campus community for students from the continent of Africa and those of African descent from other parts of the world; and, 2. To introduce the whole BYU-Hawaii student body to the African culture.

Provide educational culturally sensitive community programs, to increase a better understanding of the African American enriched heritage, and outreach to the African Americans in Hawai'i through collaboration with community organizations to promote HIV/AIDS prevention awareness.
